Why do we need autologous fat breast augmentation?

Fat is the softest tissue found in the human body. Fat lies below the skin and between various organs in our body to act as a buffer and regulate body temperature.

However, in the modern day, the role of fat as energy storage is less appreciated and is regarded as an important component for creating a beautiful body shape. Many women seek to beautify their body shape.

Regardless of the time, women’s breast has always been regarded as one of the most important part of a beautiful female body. The breast tissues consist of skin, subcutaneous fat, mammary duct, and sub-mammary duct fat.

Therefore, the fat tissues lying above and under the mammary duct play an important role in determining the shape of the breast. When it comes to breast augmentation, many surgeons think of implants and indeed, more breast augmentations are done using implants than autologous fat.

Implants are very effective for enlargement of the breast but they can also cause many complications. Therefore, autologous fat transplantation should be considered as another approach depending on patient characteristics.

I have performed breast augmentation using autologous fat for over 14 years (since 2003). In particular, many of my female patients seeking breast augmentation actually prefer the autologous fatoption when presented with a choice between implants and autologous fat.

Also, many patients who received breast augmentation with implants in the past want to remove the implants. Most of them want to replace the implant with their own fat tissues.

I see many cases where they initially choose autologous fat transplantation for breast augmentation but I also see a growing number of patients who want to replace their breast implants with autologous fat tissues.
