• #2-1. Minimally Invasive Treatment Designing According to Patient Age: Combination of 3DC and 3SC

In the previous issue, I emphasized the importance of designing as a competitive edge to set ourselves apart in this highly competitive aesthetic medicine market in Korea. Rather than pursuing simplified standards such as rounded forehead, high nosebridge, narrow jawline, or full cheeks, etc., it is important to discover the key areas to focus on to obtain natural-appearing and elegant outcomes.

I have defined this approach as the combination treatment of three divide concepts (3DC) and three S line concepts (3SC) based on anatomical distinctions. Even beginners can improve their pre-surgery design concept using this easy approach. In summary, this approach uses anatomical origin points such as the supraortbital foramen, infraorbital foramen, and mental foramen as the basis to divide the face into three vertical zones; Left Zone (LZ), Central Zone (CZ), and Right Zone (RZ) (3DC). Sagitally, three S lines are drawn based on the nasion, subnasale, and amentolabial sulcus (3SC). In 3DC, it is important to perform vector increasing procedures in the Central Zone and vector decreasing procedures in Left Zone and Right Zone.

Vector increasing procedures in 3DC include hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, collagen filler, and thread lift for volumization. Vector decreasing procedures include botulinum toxin injection, tightening, long and short thread lifting, HIFU, contouring and sculpture injections, and masseter muscle reduction with botulinum toxin injection. In 3SC, I emphasized procedures that place each anatomical origin at the midpoint of each S line (Refer to the article in the January issue for detail).

In the previous article, I explained that a simple approach based on anatomical distinction can be used as a standard formula in all patients to create a more attractive face.

In this article, we will take a closer look at the 3DC and 3SC combination approach in different age groups. In the previous article we looked at the large picture of the 3DC and 3SC combination that can be applied in all Korean patients. In this article, we will discuss how the details of this approach should change depending on the patient’s age.

    Skin characteristics according to age

If your practice is located near a college and has a large number of patients in their 20s and 30s, I recommend focusing on design concepts suitable for people in their 20s. Practices located in residential areas mainly see patients in their 40s and 50s. Practices located in commercial areas will see a variety of age groups with the majority being in their 30s and 40s.
