In long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser, hair removal becomes an indication when melanin is a chromophore, and when oxyhemoglobin is a chromophore, redness, injection, acne redness, hemangioma, and telangiectasia are indications.

When water is a chromophore, it accelerates the regeneration and circulation of the epithelial cell layer, increases collagen and elastin synthesis in the dermal layer, and is involved in immune modulation to promote skin regeneration such as improving inflammatory lesions.

Epilation Treatment using Long-pulsed Nd:YAG Laser

When using a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser, the parameters including pulse duration, spot size, fluence, and whether to use the cooling device should be determined according to the indication to be treated.

Hair removal and treatment of vascular lesions with long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser are based on the extended theory of selective photothermolysis.

Selective photothermolysis is a concept that the target chromophore is selectively destroyed because the laser is irradiated for a shorter time than the TRT of the target chromophore, but the thermal confinement minimizes thermal diffusion around the target chromophore, thereby minimizing side effects to surrounding normal tissues.
