Mechanisms of Minoxidil application that promote hair growth are known to be vascular expansion, vascular proliferation, cell division promotion, potassium channel opening promotion, immune suppression effects, etc.
When used for alopecia areata, it is reported that the higher the concentration of Minoxidil, the better the effect, and as it is easy to use, it is easily selected for the treatment of alopecia areata in children.
DPCP is widely used clinically as a method for promoting hair growth by repeatedly inducing a local stimulating response to the hair loss site.
For DPCP, sensitization is attempted with 1 to 2% solution.

Thereafter, starting at a low concentration, the concentration is gradually increased at weekly intervals according to the patient’s skin reaction.
Treatment usually takes about 6 to 8 months, and if the lesion is severe or the morbidity period is long, steady application is necessary.
PUVA (Psoralen-UVA) is used as a photochemotherapy, and can be performed in combination with other treatments for patients with alopecia areata with localized baldness or pediatric alopecia areata patients.
2. Systemic Treatment
In alopecia areata, systemic administration of steroids can be tried in various ways, such as oral steroid administration, high-dose periodic therapy, and mini-pulse therapy.
The therapeutic effect is good, but there is a problem of long-term administration of drugs to prevent recurrence due to the high recurrence rate when the drug is discontinued.
It is generally used for rapidly progressing alopecia areata.
Cyclosporine has been used continuously since hair growth was reported to be observed when used in kidney transplant patients with alopecia areata.
It is used as a combination therapy with steroids in alopecia areata, which does not respond to other treatments or has a wide range of lesions.
