Functioning and Substances of Skin Boosters

 

Skin rejuvenation booster is one of skin rejuvenating techniques that is mainly targeted at the basement membrane zone (BMZ) as a boundary between epidermis and dermis and the upper papillary dermis in the lower part of BMZ (the sublaminadensa region (Figure 1)).

Its intended purposes include treatment for anti-aging; regeneration of flushed or sensitive skin; and enhancement of therapeutic effects and reduction of adverse effects through the concomitant use with multiple energy based devices (EBDs).

 

Many different types of skin boosters have been released competitively, and respective products are actively advertised as having a special substance that would give a remarkable or excellent effect on the dermis.

 

However, more important is how effectively active substances can penetrate the targeted upper dermis.

 

In Korea, skin boosters formulated with a single component are approved as an injectable medical device, whereas those with multiple components are as a cosmeceutical.
