This indentation is caused by short mentum-cervicomental angle length and lack of bone anterior to the gonial angle and can be resolved by bone supplementation. The 3D CT image in <Image 3> also shows a slight concaveness of the bone.

The distance between the teeth and mentum is important when considering a chin implant in patients with a short chin. When this distance is sufficient, advance genioplasty can be carried out. However, if this distance is too short, the chin needs to be advanced and elongated at the same time and a suitable implant cannot be produced using previous methods. Autologous bone implant requires harvesting a large amount of autologous bone. It is not a treatment option as the amount of bone resorption cannot be predicted.
