• #5-3. The Treatment of Folds and Wrinkles in Taiwan

    The Fillers

When talking about fillers injection for wrinkles correction, it is well know that the nasolabial folds and the marionette lines are the two main widely treated areas in Taiwan. Other areas like glabella, and tear trough are also frequently asked for correction. (Figure 2)

Although it seems quite straight forward and simple to inject in these folds, various injection methods as well as different kinds of fillers are introduced here in Taiwan through recent years. One of the most influencing key persons to the advancement of injection techniques is Dr. Mauricio de Maio from Brazil, who visited Taiwan almost every year to advocate his unique ways of injection.

From the original “8-point lift”, the injection equations evolved to “6-point chin reshaping”, “5-point nose reshaping”, “3+3-point periorbital reshaping” etc., and finally the “MD codes equations” in 2016. He tried to use many different injection locations as functional groups to help physicians translate the patients’ “wants and feels” to a practical personalized long-term treatment plan for patients’ “needs”. This “MD codes equations” correct not only the wrinkles and lines, but also shapes and contours on the face.

Another well known injection technique is the “YES-pyramid” injection method proposed by Dr. Yu-Pin Peng from Taiwan, who tried to inject the fillers from the bilateral temples all the way along the cheeks, through the nose, and down to the chin, thus making a “Y” shaped injection line. This large volume expansion can correct the wrinkles and reshape the contour of the face, creating the midface fullness, like an imaginary pyramid using the nose as the peak, and the bilateral temples and chin as the three bases.
