Shedding Phenomenon
The increasing number of hairs falling out during initial 2 to 3 months after starting the application of Minoxidil Solution at home or hair loss treatment in a hospital is referred to as a shedding phenomenon.
In the course of treatment, there are some patients who are not able to overcome this shedding phenomenon and decide to give up treatment.
The shedding phenomenon is usually observed in 20 to 30% of patients treated for hair loss.
Excessive shedding of telogen hairs suddenly occurs as new anagen hairs that appear like new buds push old telogen hairs out.
In other words, shedding is a sudden loss of telogen hairs due to stimulation of hair growth.
Although more hairs may fall out during this period than before treatment, this should be understood as a positive signal for new hair growth and as a favorable response to hair loss therapy.
