Surgeons with a long experience in the operation room can easily avoid technical pitfalls and are resourceful enough to resolve post-surgical problems. On the other hand, novice doctors cannot. Patients are becoming less understanding of doctors’ mistakes. I focus on simple techniques that can be easily learned or best ways to avoid problems. There is a saying that when it comes to the eyelid surgery, every plastic surgeon has a different approach. There are numerous surgical methods out there. My techniques also continue to evolve through trial and error. Communicating with other surgeons with different approaches to the same surgery can help improve one’s skills.

Before and after surgery
Before surgery. Two years after surgery: In this patient, double eyelid surgery, redraping epicanthotomy and eye line correction were performed. Besides improvement in the eye shape, the forehead muscles have relaxed, resulting in an improvement of the overall countenance. In epicanthotomy, the muscle inside the epicanthic fold is removed and extraocular muscles are surgically adjusted to create a double fold when the eye is open. This creates a larger eye opening and allows more accurate prediction of the surgical outcome.
