Dermal Filler Seminar
Dr. Koh Iksoo of Petit Noble Aesthetic Clinic
Most plastic surgeons and dermatologists specializing in aesthetic treatment would agree that petit plastic surgery (minimally invasive cosmetic surgery) is a major trend in aesthetic medicine. This trend is expected to continue in the future. Dr. Koh Iksoo of Petit Noble Aesthetic Clinic took interest in petit cosmetic surgery after seeing its great potential for growth. His efforts contributed to enlarging the role of dermal fillers in the field of aesthetic medicine.
“My first experience with Restylane was in 1999. At the time, fillers were mainly used for fine wrinkle removal but I discovered that they could also be used for rhinoplasty. I injected a dermal filler in the nasal tip of a patient for scar correction. This improved the scar as well as augmented the nasal dorsum as an added benefit. Based on careful observation of patients’ responses, I developed ”petit rhinoplasty“. Patients and doctors both prefer short downtime. I thought the minimal invasiveness was a key advantage of this treatment. I started my research on this new technique priding in the fact that no one had ventured into it yet.”

Since Dr. Koh’s research, the market for injectable dermal fillers has grown extensively. There are now numerous manufacturers and products available that it is difficult to keep track of all their names. However, dermal fillers were still far from a favored tool in a plastic surgeon’s armamentarium.
“In the early days, Restylane and Artecoll were the only filler choices available. They were all soft fillers. Plastic surgeons were skeptical about their efficacy and just kept them in storage. There are now a wide variety of fillers ranging in varying degrees of hardness. Many Korean products have also entered the market. Dermal fillers went through a drastic improvement in terms of efficacy, safety, stability and physical properties.”
